HMRC are to be given the powers to dip into debtors’ bank accounts and help themselves to tax which they believe they are owed.

Everybody should pay the correct amount of tax, but HMRC have a poor history of knowing what the correct amount of tax is that people owe!!

HMRC will be acting as both judge and jury and there is no one to oversee them and challenge their conduct.

It is a clear infringement of civil liberties and there will be some horror stories.  It also presents the insolvency profession with a number of issues as HMRC may take money they are not entitled to and the insolvency practitioner may have to apply to court to get those monies back.  Watch this space!!
