50 shops a day disappear from High Streets

Research from the Local Data Company shows that more than 8,700 chain stores closed in British High Streets, shopping centres and retail parks in the first six months of this year. This is an average of nearly 50 outlets a day.

The impact of the pandemic and changing shopping habits continue to hit many towns and city centres.

The number of closures has fallen compared with a year earlier. Fashion retailers showed the biggest decline.

However, nearly 3,500 outlets opened in the same period with Takeaways dominating the store openings charts.
