In one area that covers Grimsby and Hull there are currently fifteen debt advisors, however, new contracts from the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) will see more money being spent to provide aide over the phone and online, replacing face-to-face services – when this comes into effect, this will go down to four.

The strategy is set to cut face-to-face advice by between 50-60%, however advisers have claimed that decision could leave some people at risk of not receiving the help they require when they need it most.

The MaPS claims that these new contracts will, conflictingly, provide help to a larger quantity of people – this will mean more funding will be spent on a lesser number of larger regional and national centres, leaving local, on the ground services with less monetary support.

A campaign group opposing these changes by the MaPS, the largest funder of free debt advice in England, are set to meet at the start of November to voice their concerns to a number of MP’s.
