Rogue education publisher wound up by courts over inappropriate sales

A community interest company, The Prevention Foundation CIC, has been wound-up by the High Court for misleading various businesses into paying for sponsorship of anti-knife crime, anti-bullying, fire and road safety booklets primarily for schools.

The Prevention Foundation began trading in 2019 after taking over business from the Safety Guide Ltd, wound up in 2020 following an investigation by the Insolvency Service. The Insolvency Service determined that Prevention Foundation was operating in a substantially similar way to Safety Guide, obtaining sponsorships for the company through unsolicited sales calls, whilst using misleading tactics.

The directors of Prevention Foundation failed to provide company accounts or records for the company, ultimately failing to cooperate with the Insolvency Service’s investigations.

The Prevention Foundation secured more than £1.6 million in sponsorship by the start of 2021 however due to the lack of company records it was near impossible to account for over £1 million worth of expenditure say the Insolvency Service.
