Former tennis ace Boris Becker has been declared bankrupt.
Although lawyers acting for Becker asked the Registrar, Christine Derrett, for more time to pay a long standing debt to private bankers Arbuthnot Lathan & Co, she refused stating that there was no credible evidence that Becker would be in a position to repay this historic debt and that he had acted like ‘a man with his head in the sand’.
Becker’s lawyers further argued that bankruptcy would have an adverse effect on his ‘image’, but Derrett comented that ‘he should have thought of that a long time ago!
